Events & School Visits

I am an experienced speaker (in fact I’ve been speaking since I was very young) and I offer a range of school visit opportunities including:

Author Visits (all primary levels)

This is where I discuss how I became a writer, including humorous tales from my childhood that became the inspiration for Chicken Stu. Sessions anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes in length. Covers the writing process from inspiration to the final product. May include readings from published work or work in progress. May also include an impromptu dance.

Writing Workshops (for primary, or secondary students)

Writing workshops can be custom made for the needs of your students. They range from one-off workshops, up to 90 minutes in length, through to a series of workshops over a term. Specific workshops available include:

Writing great characters

How to structure your story

Descriptive Writing

The best snacks to eat while writing

Screenwriting Workshops (for primary, or secondary students)

Making movies is heaps of fun, and now due to the changes in technology, it is also really easy to do. The trickiest part is coming up with a great script. This workshop covers how writing screenplays differs from other types of writing. Learn how to correctly format your screenplay, as well as how to structure your story and write believable dialogue.

Overview Session – 90 minutes

Intensive Workshop – 1 Day

Filmmaking Workshops (for primary, or secondary students)

Covers all the different elements of filmmaking. Workshops (60-90 minutes) available in the following areas:

Production Tips (using cameras, microphones, lighting etc)

Editing (using iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, or Final Cut)

Storytelling Sessions (for lower primary students)

Feedback:

Today Nathan Luff shared his love for books with our students. Nathan’s passion for literature is indeed infectious. His ability to engage every student is outstanding. As a teacher I was also hanging on Nathan’s every word as he shared stories about his youth, which are woven into his books. An inspiring and interesting educator, author and individual – Thank you again Nathan!” Teacher, St Mary’s Primary School, North Sydney

“You were brilliant. The kids and teachers loved you. Thank you so much for visiting us.” Deputy Principal, Blessed Sacrament School, Clifton Gardens, NSW

“Thanks so much for coming and talking to us yesterday. I think that you are truly inspirational!” Student, Blessed Sacrament School, Clifton Gardens, NSW

“We just came home from school and bought your new Chicken Stu book – already read 5 chapters – you’re the best.” Student, Altona Meadows PS, Victoria

“Nathan had us all laughing and inspired many of the students to try and find the born storyteller within themselves. I have to tell you that I was on duty at lunch break today and I saw about 20 students huddled under trees READING! I’ve never seen that before at Auburn.” Teacher, St John’s PS
